AE series counters are available in 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 digit versions with digit sizes ranging from 1-inch high to 12 inches high. Standard signal types for COUNT and RESET include dry contacts from limit switches, proximity detectors, or relays; DC voltage signals from PLC's, TTL outputs (NPN or PNP) from instruments and detectors; and AC voltage signals from PLC's or other control equipment. The opto-isolated inputs allow the controls to be up to 1000 feet away from the display. Option 354 provides an intelligent serial input for the AE series displays. This is not standard RS232 input. However, up to 50 AE series devices with this option can be connected to a standard RS232 port, at distances up to 2,000 feet away. Signal drivers are available to provide systems with unlimited numbers of displays. This option allows AE Series displays to communicate with host computers, master clocks, process computers (PLC's), multi-media system controllers, and AE21 display controllers. Applications include computer controlled master clock systems, production monitors, time to next show timers, process indicators, and message displays.

A simple 10 Byte message is required to send data or control information to the display. It provides addressing, mode selection, six characters of data, and display attributes. Free software is available for Computer and Master Clock based systems.
