Barco - The Franklin Institute enlivens landmark historical exhibit with Barco laser phosphor projection

Laser illumination significantly reduces maintenance, operating costs

Sacramento, Calif. USA – 25 August 2016 – Global projection technology leader Barco is empowering a beloved Philadelphia museum to create a spectacular gateway to its key exhibits, illuminating the cornerstone Benjamin Franklin National Memorial for a fraction of the cost incurred with the previous lamp-based projection system.
When it came time to upgrade The Franklin Institute’s projection for the massive rotunda, Advanced AV selected Barco PGWU-62L laser phosphor projectors, not only as the most cost-effective solution – saving thousands of dollars due to the elimination of projector lamp replacements – but also for its superior picture quality, affordable price and five-year extended warranty.

“The main goal of the Franklin Institute was to dramatically reduce maintenance costs, and with the projectors running a solid 10 hours per day, we’ve achieved that to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars saved per year,” comments Tim Pickford, Account Manager for Advanced AV.

Illuminating multimedia entertainment
The projectors also offered a distinct improvement in brightness, which was critical given the size of the rotunda and the shooting distance from the projector to the wall. “Ben Franklin Forever,” a 3.5-minute video presentation presented on four of the walls, was a driving force behind the projection system upgrade. In addition, several multimedia displays surround a marble statue of Benjamin Franklin, projecting quotes and clips which showcase his many inventions and contributions to science.

Quiet and sharp
Designed for fixed installation, the compact and lightweight PGWU-62L projector features WUXGA resolution (1,920 x 1,200) and reliable single-chip DLP technology, delivering excellent contrast, color management and brightness. It’s the quietest laser phosphor projector on the market (5,000 lm and up), making it ideal for high-profile public venues as well as boardrooms. Low maintenance costs and long lifetime make it a smart investment.

“We’re excited to see our laser phosphor projectors dramatically elevate the ‘wow’ factor for The Franklin Institute’s magnificent exhibits while saving the Institute thousands of dollars per year,” comments Neil Wittering, Director Strategic Marketing ProAV. “Advanced AV did a fantastic job integrating the projectors in a challenging environment – they are true innovators in this space!”
