MuxLab Premiers Next Generation SDI Extenders at IBC 2016
Posted on Tuesday, September 27, 2016

Broadcasters can benefit from MuxLab’s selection of new extenders supporting 6G-SDI. Premiering at IBC are the 6G-SDI Extender over UTP with Ethernet (model 500733) and the 6G-SDI Extender over Fiber with Return Channel (model 500734). Both systems allow cameras and other SDI sources to be extended from the display using either CAT5/6 or fiber cable at 4K resolutions.

The 6G-SDI Extender over UTP with Ethernet extends 6G-SDI over industry-standard Cat5e/6 cable up to 150 meters in distance. Users can extend four HD-SDI feeds, two 3G-SDI feeds or one 6G-SDI feed over a single cable. An Ethernet return channel enables AV monitoring and talk-back. RS232 pass-through provides for tally light, camera control unit (CCU) and control of end devices.

The 6G-SDI Extender over Fiber with Return Channel (models 500734-MM, 500734-SM10, 500734-SM40 and 500734-SM80) extends 6G-SDI up to 80 kilometers over single mode fiber cable or up to 400 meters over multimode fiber optic cable. Users can extend HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, and 6G-SDI feeds over the cable. This product supports multi-channel transmission, and can simultaneously transmit up to 9Gbps of data through-put over the transmission link between the TX and RX, and supports simultaneous mixed signals such as one 6G-SDI signal + one 3G-SDI, or two 3G-SDI signals + two HD-SDI signals, etc. The device supports one input and one output SDI port, plus three directional SDI ports that can be individually configured as input or output. This flexibility allows for up to four source ports and one return channel, or up to one source port and four return channels, or anything in between.  An SDI return channel is provided for AV monitoring and talk-back. RS232 pass-through provides for tally light, camera control unit (CCU) and control of end devices.

MuxLab’s 6G-SDI Fiber Extender Kit (model 500712) transmits 6G-SDI up to 20 kilometers using a single mode fiber cable in a point-to-point configuration at all specified bit rates.  This kit transmits up to 6.0Gbps of digital video within broadcasting facilities and among professional equipment, making it well suited for post-production, mobile video, live events and medical imaging.

“MuxLab will showcase its unique line-up of solutions supporting all SDI formats, as well as a live working demonstration of the 6G-SDI Extender over Fiber with Return Channel at booth A30,” added MuxLab President Daniel Assaraf. “'We invite attendees to see real-world examples of how we can support their broadcast signal distribution needs.”
