Barco summer 2017: a taste of Belgium
Posted on Friday, July 7, 2017

Ahh … those great summer months: time to unwind, enjoy life, meet new people and discover new places. Are you a jet-set globetrotter interested in sightseeing around the world, or do you prefer exploring new places from behind your computer screen? In the coming weeks, we will guide you on a virtual trip through the world of Barco. From Kortrijk, Belgium, to Sydney, Australia: get on board to meet the Barco people and discover some must-sees near our offices. We’re kicking off our journey in Kortrijk with a snapchat of the Belgian marketing team.
Medieval buildings and modern design
With 284,000 inhabitants, Kortrijk is a fairly small town. To Barco, however, it means the world, as this is where our headquarters – One Campus – is located. Moreover, we’ve got great customers and business partners here, like KULAK and AZ Groeninge

. But these aren’t exactly tourist attractions, are they? So, after taking a stroll through Kortrijk – you’ll love the medieval buildings, modern design and cozy market squares – we suggest driving 30 kilometers west to visit a Barco customer in Ypres: In Flanders Fields Museum

Immersed in history
Ypres is a little town in the southwestern corner of Belgium, only a stone’s throw away from Poperinge, where Barco was originally founded back in 1934. As quiet as the region is now, it was action-packed 100 years ago during the First World War. At In Flanders Field Museum, you experience for yourself the trials and impacts of the First World War. Hundreds of thousands of people from around the world visit the museum every year. To immerse them into the WWI experience, the museum chose a narrative approach. We helped them achieve that by installing F35 and F22 projectors.

Kinepolis, a cinema frontrunner
Don’t miss the Last Post ceremony in Ypres after your visit to the museum. At 8 o’clock every evening since 1928, buglers have played a salute to the fallen beneath the famous Menin Gate Memorial – an overwhelmingly impressive moment. After arriving back in Kortrijk, you might want to enjoy an uplifting movie to lighten your mood. Kinepolis cinema, just a few steps from our offices, is a cinema frontrunner that has been using Barco solutions since the early days of the digital era. Say ‘hi’ from us when you’re there!

Beer and chocolates

Want to see some more of Belgium? We’re sure that Bruges is on your bucket list. Here, you’ll find Barco technology at the Historium, right in the Market Square. And in Mons, located in the French-speaking part of Belgium yet close to Kortrijk, Barco equipped the Memorial Museum with cutting-edge projection solutions. In the midst of all that history and Barco technology, don’t forget to savor a great Belgian beer, try a local dish and enjoy our delicious chocolates. Welcome to Belgium!

Keep an eye on our summer news, as we’ll be taking a trip to Dubai next week. In the meantime, enjoy the summer and share your own Barco summer pic/snap in the comments below!
