Crestron makes the Smart TV smarter
Posted on Wednesday, September 25, 2013
Crestron makes the Smart TV smarter  The Crestron family of control apps keeps growing. Joining its apps for the world's leading mobile devices, including iPad®, iPhone®, iPod touch®, and Android™ devices, Crestron now brings its renowned AV and environmental control to Smart TVs, starting with the market leader, Samsung®. The company will be demonstrating the app for the first time at CEDIA Expo in Denver.

Available soon, the Crestron App for Samsung Smart TV* enables Crestron system owners to control AV, lighting, shades, climate, and more from an on-screen menu right on their TV.

Widely compatible, discreetly powerful
Compatible with 2012 or later Samsung Smart TV models, the app can automatically launch when you turn on the TV and silently runs in the background. There's no need to navigate and scroll through a maze of menus to get started. It supports individually customized apps on multiple TVs and delivers dynamic text messages for all types of events, such as security alerts, doorbells, and incoming phone calls.

"It's like turning your Samsung Smart TV into a Crestron control interface," said Delia Hansen, Crestron Residential Marketing Manager. "It's not just an overlay. A translucent control menu slides out on the display, resizing the viewing area, so there's minimal distraction from the action. Even better, there's no need to switch inputs, completely eliminating any viewing interruption."

"Samsung is pleased to collaborate with Crestron to incorporate home theater control to our Smart TV platform," said Dave Das, Vice President of Home Entertainment Marketing, Samsung Electronics America. "This is an industry first - consumers will be able to manage an integrated home automation experience without taking their eyes off of their TV screen."

Use the remote as a simple Crestron controller
The app can be customized to provide simple, intuitive, menu-driven control of virtually anything in any room. Control is simple using the familiar directional pad on the Samsung remote that accompanies the TV or Crestron remotes. For even more flexibility, Crestron touch screens or any Crestron Mobile app can be used to control the on-screen menu.

"The hospitality market, in particular, is primed for TVs and control solutions that aren't connected to proprietary interactive media systems," adds Hansen. "This new app makes Crestron a very competitive environmental and media control option for hotels because the on-screen interactive display eliminates the need for additional touch screens and remotes."

Will be available for download
Samsung Smart TV owners will be able to download a free version of the Crestron app directly to their TV from Samsung Smart Hub to experience a demo without having a Crestron control system. Once configured and connected to a programmed Crestron control system, they will be able to download the paid Crestron app ($99.99) and be in control. (Available in U.S. only.)
