USA – 3 May 2016 – Barco, a leader in visualization technology, was honored at the 2016 Digital Signage Expo with a prestigious Silver APEX Award in the immersive environment category. The award recognizes the projection mapping event at the Hoover Dam, in which Creative Technology selected Barco large venue projectors to showcase a dynamic visual spectacular at the national landmark on behalf of Daimler Trucks North America.
The annual DSE APEX Awards are designed to recognize and honor achievement in the installation of digital displays and interactive technology and the creation of compelling viewer content. The awards have honored hundreds of companies for their innovation throughout the years.
Leading the world in iconic projection mappings
Barco is becoming a well-known icon in the projection mapping arena due to its in-depth experience in pixel mapping applications, ultra-high brightness projectors and advanced media servers. For the Hoover Dam projection mapping, 30 Barco HDF-W26 and 30 HDX-W20 FLEX projectors were set-up in three banks, with six projectors required to create each image. All images were seamlessly blended to create a single 4592 x 2048 pixel image on the 420,000-square-foot surface, generating an astonishing, record-breaking 1.17 million lumens. In fact, the project received a Guinness World Record for being the highest light output projection at that time.

An outstanding honor among top digital innovators
DSE’s APEX Awards were individually assessed and juried on the basis of originality and innovation by 13 industry experts and journalists, all of whom have long reported on the digital signage sector, have published on the many facets of the industry and are recognized as versant in current industry trends. This year’s APEX Award finalists were chosen by an independent panel of 13 industry experts and journalists from a field of 155 entrants from 11 countries vying in 9 major digital signage categories.
