This is an entirely mechanical, custom made, aircraft quality switch that allows eight universes of data to be switched from one lighting console to another by turning one switch.  If your lighting console dies in the middle of a show you can switch to a backup console in a second, without worrying that an electrical spike disrupted your backup switch.
