LAS VEGAS, Nevada – August 13, 2018 – McCann Systems, the award-winning audiovisual integrator of choice in Las Vegas for almost two decades, rises to the challenge of the sports betting boom across the United States.
This surge in casino and sports betting technologies follows a historic U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning a 25-year ban on sports betting in all states but one. New Jersey, followed by various states, had drafted several Senate-backed bills to repeal the federal law and bring regulated sports betting into each economy, but none made it passed district and lower courts. Finally, the United States Supreme Court heard the case in December 2017, putting everyone in the gaming industry on high alert until the official ruling in favor of New Jersey on May 14, 2018.
“In the last couple of months, there’s been a lot of visiting and speculating on options for sports betting solutions and expansions,” says Ken Newbury, senior VP of operations at McCann Systems. “We’ve been doing some design work to get ahead of the betting technology curve and we had one job in New Jersey that went green immediately after the Supreme Court announcement. It’s going to be wild how quickly things happen.”
That newly released project in New Jersey is the Ocean Resort Casino’s sports book, which opened its doors to bettors on June 28, 2018, just 45 days after the high court ruling. With a scaled book in place to immediately accommodate patrons, the completed 7,500-square-foot space on the casino’s gaming floor will be equipped with a bar featuring a four-sided LED ticker, videowalls, odds boards, and live InPlay betting odds.
The firm has already been in conversation with other casinos in New Jersey (and other optimistic states) hoping to seize the opportunity and revenue ahead. Sports betting is expected to bring about $13 million in tax revenue to New Jersey during its first year.
In response to the boom in the Garden State and at least 16 other states lined up to present their case to the Supreme Court, many Las Vegas casinos are ready to rejuvenate their brands and elevate the gaming experience to uphold the city’s reputation as the ultimate betting destination. This means big business for an integration firm like McCann Systems.
To meet this demand, the firm’s local office has taken on additional resources. “Our goal is to build up our presence and continue working with existing and new customers to be a part of the perpetual renovations to their sports books and experiential signage deployments,” notes Newbury. The growing office will continue to maintain close to two dozen high profile casinos and race and sports books designed and integrated by McCann, as well as continue to expand their local footprint with new betting environments.
