The Client

Founded in 1946, the National Basketball Association (NBA) is a professional basketball league based in North America. Featuring 30 teams (29 in the United States and 1 in Canada), the NBA is the premier men’s professional basketball in the world and is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada.

Challenges:

As part of a larger redesign of their New York City office space, the NBA engaged TAD Associates to upgrade its AV, Broadcast and network technology. Tritech was selected as the integrator and became part of the design/engineering and implementation team.  In addition to AV, Tritech’s IT division was awarded the IT infrastructure portion of the project.

The project encompassed more than 150 rooms and offices, spread over multiple floors. It was executed in multiple phases to allow for employees to continue working through the construction process.  This required the engineering team to come up with ingenious ways of keeping systems functioning while portions were disconnected and replaced.  On one floor, a new staircase and video wall had to be installed between a construction floor and an occupied floor. Tritech worked with all the other designers and contractors to closely coordinate deliveries and installation schedules to ensure minimum downtime in rooms and loading docks.

Solutions:

Tritech installed a variety of systems from simple displays with one source to complex spaces like the center court event area which features a 20-foot high video wall, high quality audio systems, and Shure wireless microphones.  Samsung displays were used throughout the facility.  IPad room schedulers were installed outside many of the conference rooms facilitating reserving the rooms and requesting amenities.

The broadcast studio cameras were integrated into the Tritech provided switching and distribution systems.  The overall system is versatile thanks to the extensive tie lines that allow feeds from a variety of locations to be inserted into the programming.

Private offices were equipped with an IPTV system feed as well as Logitech cameras that can be used for video calls.  Tritech also provided a sound masking system which provides an extra layer of security and comfort in open areas.

Outcome:

All the phases of the project were successfully completed and Tritech has provided support for the systems since the initial phase.  Tritech has a continuing relationship with the NBA and has been awarded additional work in other NBA facilities.
