Vietnam Post & Telecommunications Selects Polycom® RealPresence® Platform to Power First Cloud-Delivered, Video-as-a-Service Offering in Vietnam
Posted on Thursday, March 8, 2012
HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam - Mar 08, 2012 : Vietnam Post & Telecommunication (VNPT), the largest telecommunications carrier in Vietnam, today officially announced the launch of MegaConference, a new cloud-delivered video conferencing service for businesses, in collaboration with Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the global leader in standards-based unified communications (UC) solutions. MegaConference is a subscription-based video conferencing service, also known as Video-as-a-Service (VaaS), designed to deliver a face-to-face communication solution in a pay-as-you-use model to businesses, allowing for more efficient collaboration anywhere and anytime. The MegaConference service is powered by the Polycom® RealPresence® Platform – the most comprehensive and interoperable software infrastructure for universal video collaboration, providing the carrier-grade scalability, reliability, availability, and security required for service providers to deliver VaaS offerings to SMBs and enterprises.

Video collaboration is taking off in countries throughout Asia, and in emerging markets such as Vietnam. A recent Forrester survey found that 55 percent of APAC businesses already use video conferencing today, and 84 percent of firms in APAC have either implemented video or plan to within the next year.1

The new MegaConference offering will provide Vietnam organizations with a secure, high-quality, reliable, flexible and cost-effective collaboration solution to support and drive productivity and efficiencies in day-to-day business operations. MegaConference is available in four levels of service offerings, tailored to address the diversified needs of organizations at any scale and in any industry, including government, healthcare, education, hospitality and enterprises.

"In the current competitive landscape, businesses are tasked with finding the most efficient and cost-effective ways to increase productivity and accelerate operations at a faster pace than ever before," said Mr. Pham Duc Long, Vice Director of VNPT HCMC. "Increasingly, Vietnam businesses are turning to video collaboration as a mission-critical productivity tool, and cloud-based Video-as-a-Service options make it fast and easy to deliver video conferencing while dramatically reducing the cost to support multi-party video meetings. Our service packages are designed to meet the needs of every business. MegaConference is the right video solution to deliver not only cost savings for our customers, but also provide a higher level of flexibility and productivity that supports business growth."

VNPT selected the Polycom RealPresence Platform as the software infrastructure of choice due to the unique open-standards approach of the platform, which ensures integration with hundreds of unified communications, business and social networking applications, bridging silos, and truly unifying communications across the enterprise. The Polycom RealPresence Platform seamlessly integrates with VNPT's core networking and security infrastructure to deliver secure collaboration across heterogeneous networks with up to 50 percent less bandwidth consumption than other solutions in the marketplace today. The RealPresence Platform delivers the industry's only true carrier-grade reliability and scale, supporting up to 75,000 device registrations and 25,000 concurrent sessions.

"We are confident in choosing Polycom as our solution provider to deploy this service for our customers, as they bring expertise and leadership in standards-based unified communications and video collaboration solutions. The Polycom RealPresence Platform is helping VNPT get to market faster, while enabling us to easily manage the delivery and provisioning of the MegaConference service," Mr. Pham Duc Long added.

"As the leading telecommunications carrier in Vietnam, VNPT requires the most comprehensive collaboration solution, delivering open, standards-based video communications with fast and easy deployment for this advanced service offering. Polycom is proud to be selected by VNPT to supply our RealPresence Platform for their ground-breaking Video-as-a-Service offering to Vietnam organizations," said Mr. Chris Taylor, Polycom Regional Director for ASEAN, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. "Service providers are critical partners to drive video collaboration growth through Video-as-a-Service offerings, which will dramatically lower the up-front investment for SMBs and enterprises, enabling them to reap the benefits of video collaboration. Polycom's vision is to make video collaboration ubiquitous by delivering easy-to-use, standards-based software to anyone, across any environment and any device, and through new platforms such as cloud-based video delivered by service providers."

The MegaConference service was originally piloted by 20 businesses in December 2011 and subsequently deployed and supported by VNCTC, Polycom's system integrator partner in Vietnam. Feedback from the pilot was overwhelmingly positive, as one trial-customer stated: "The MegaConference service, supported by the scalability, security and reliability of the Polycom RealPresence Platform, proved to be highly efficient in delivering rapid cost savings and this really changed the traditional methods of face-to-face meetings for our organization. MegaConference enabled us to save not only on costs and time, but increased employee productivity quite substantially," said Mr. Nguyen Van An, Deputy Director General, Hoa Binh Construction and Business JSc. "We will be fully subscribing to this service and deploying it across our organization for greater efficiencies."
